Jean Sinsheimer Yudain died Sept. 27 at her Greenwich home. She had lived in town for 57 years and was a longtime volunteer at Greenwich Hospital and the Christ Church Bookstore.
Yudain married her husband, Bernard, in 1954. He was the former assistant to the president and corporate affairs director of Time Inc. and was head of the first Washington office of Time. Bernard also served as managing editor of Greenwich Time in the 1950s. He was known for breaking one of the biggest stories in Greenwich history when the United Nations Organization first made plans to make backcountry Greenwich home for its new headquarters in 1945. He also was a longtime columnist for the daily newspaper.
Jean Yudain stayed active and up to date through her husband's work. She also was a docent at Caramoor in Katonah, N.Y.
She attended Rye Country Day School and the College of New Rochelle in New York.
A descendent of two pioneering California families, her parents moved from west to east when her father joined the Cities Service oil company, where he became a vice chairman of the board.
She is survived by her son, David Yudain of Greenwich; sister, Anne, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Church Greenwich, 254 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich. Memorial donations can be made to Adopt-A-Dog of Greenwich, 849 Lake Ave., Greenwich, CT 06831.
