James J. Larkin of Greenwich died Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Greenwich Woods Nursing Home. He was 85 years old.
Larkin was born in Brooklyn on Nov. 2, 1925. His family moved to Chicago in 1933 and he graduated from high school in 1942. He joined the Army Air Forces the next year as a radio operator and mechanic. In 1946, he enrolled in Columbia University under the GI Bill.
He went to work for B.O.A.C., now known as British Airways, in 1951 and dealt with the relationships between movie studios and the airline. Larkin created Enterprise Productions in 1954 and become the U.S. distributor of BBC preschool shows such as "Andy Pandy." He moved to Greenwich in 1968 and worked as vice president of marketing for Visual Information Systems. Larkin launched Business Television Services in 1971 and produced training programs for businesses. He was also executive producer of the television sketch comedy show "Madhouse Brigade" in 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Janet E. Larkin; six children, Daniel Thomson, Kate Thomson Petrov, Alex Larkin, Jenny Larkin, Cecilia Webber and Josephine Bennet; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Burial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in New Rochelle. Memorial donations can be made to Reach the Children, P.O.
