Illegal Immigrant Arrested in Dispute Over Car

A Greenwich man arrested after an argument with a friend Tuesday in Greenwich was found to be an illegal immigrant.

Oscar Israel Cruz, 22, of 16 St. Roch Ave., had been arguing with a friend on West Putnam Avenue when the friend to return a car to him. Cruz had asked him to hold onto the car while he was out of town.

Cruz admitted to forging the car’s title and documents by having it registered in another friend’s name. He was arrested on charges of forgery, interfering with an officer and having no operator’s license. After being held on these charges, Cruz was detained for officers from U.S. Customs and Immigration.  

Also from the Greenwich Police Department:

• Charles Green, 50, of 419 Franklin St., Port Chester, N.Y., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of failure to appear in court, stemming from a larceny charge in August. He was held on $500 bond and was due in court May 4.

• Laura Amiot, 22, of 31 Doubling Road, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of failure to appear in court, stemming from charges of identity theft, forgery and larceny in April. Amiot allegedly stole and cashed checks from a Greenwich flower shop. She was held on $5,000 bond and was due in court Wednesday.

• A 39-year-old Greenwich man was arrested on charges of assault and disorderly conduct after allegedly kicking a victim in a domestic dispute. He was released on $1,000 bond and was due in court Thursday.
