Henry Weigl, a North Palm Beach resident and former Greenwich resident, died Oct. 30. He was 98.
He was born in Springfield Garden, N.Y., and attended a one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Jamaica High School. Weigl received a scholastic scholarship to study at Harvard Law School and graduated cum laude in 1936.
Weigl joined Standard Brands Inc. in 1943 in the legal department before being promoted to chairman and CEO in 1964. He was responsible for acquiring the Clinton Corn Processing and Planters Peanut Co. Weigl served the company for 20 years and retired in 1977.
He was the president of the board of trustees of Elmira College and was a trustee to the Greenwich Hospital Association and the Nutrition Foundation. Weigl was a member of Greenwich Country Club and the Indian Harbor Yacht Club.
Weigl is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marie Babington Weigl; daughters Pamela Coulter and Judith Buttinger; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His first wife, Gladys Hines Weigl, died in 1967.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Second Congregational Church, 139 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich. Memorial donations can be made to the Harvard Law School Scholarship Fund, Office of the Recording Secretary, Harvard University, 124 Mount Auburn St., Cambridge, MA 02138.
