Henry 'Ben' Lines, 82, Navy Veteran

Henry Benjamin “Ben” Lines, a former longtime resident of Greenwich, died on April 5. He was 82 years old and lived in New Preston, Conn.

Lines was the husband of Roberta June Kolesar-Lines and the late Louise Anderson Lines. He was born in Bessemer, Ala., on Sept. 15, 1928. He served in the Navy in World War II and Korea as a gunner’s mate aboard the USS Dayton and USS Casa Grande. He started the USS Casa Grande Reunion Association in 2001 and served as its president until 2009.

He owned and operated Starlite TV for many years. In his younger years he coached youth baseball in Greenwich and led the Starlite TV team to the 1977 Midget League crown.

He is survived by his a son, Henry Benjamin Lines III; four daughters, Linda Coyle and her husband, Dennis, Patricia Apgar, Cheryl Lines, and Bonnie Lienhardt and her husband, Ronald, and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Everett Merritt Jr. and George Merritt; and four stepdaughters, Mary Viscount and her husband, Paul, Pat Nishti and her husband, Tom Fulton, Jeannette Parker and her husband, Gary, and Linda Donovan and her husband, Vincent, and their children.

A service with full military honors will be held Wednesday, April 13, at 5 p.m. in the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St. in Milford. A memorial gathering will follow until 8 p.m., followed by prayer service. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
