Greenwich's John Blankley to Seek Assembly Seat

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich Democrat John Blankley, who lost the first selectman’s race last November to Peter Tesei, announced this week he plans to run against State Rep. Livvy Floren for a seat in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

Floren has been elected to six terms and represents the 149th District, which includes parts of Stamford and Greenwich. She is expected to get the Republican nomination for reelection at its nominating convention next Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. at Greenwich Town Hall.

Blankley, who was born in the United Kingdom, became a citizen, along with his wife, Vera, and three grown children, in the late 1990s. He formerly worked as a chartered accountant with PriceWaterhouse before serving as chief financial officer of BP North America. Blankley then joined the shipping industry and served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Stolt-Nielsen, a chemical tanker company formerly based in Greenwich. Today, he is the principal of Flagship Networks Inc., a Greenwich-based information technology company. Throughout his campaign for first selectman, Blankley compared running the town to running a business.

The Democratic Town Committee is scheduled to hold its nominating convention for the 149th District seat at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwich Town Hall.
