Greenwich Woman Uses Film to Help Abused Women

GREENWICH, Conn. – Joni Steele Kimberlin has a Mother's Day gift for Fairfield County's women. The Greenwich-based filmmaker is raising money for YWCA Greenwich's Domestic Abuse Services Programs through sales of her award-winning film “Get Real! Wise Women Speak.”

Kimberlin traveled throughout  the U.S. and to London and India to interview the 18 women featured in her film and find out what a woman’s life can become after 50. Actress Jane Fonda, author Marianne Williamson, entertainer Della Reese, poet Nikki Giovanni, Buddhist nun Tenzin Palmo and others share their powerful journeys to the “wise woman years.”

Approximately 60 million American women are over the half-century mark and in their " ‘third fire’ of life,” Kimberlin said in a prepared statement. “This is my reality show – it is time for society to realize that older women don’t just disappear or fall off a cliff as they age, but actually get wiser, more powerful and more valuable.”

For Mother’s Day, Kimberlin is donating 10 percent of her film's DVD sales to the YWCA Greenwich programs aimed at protecting, nurturing and assisting domestice victims and helping them rebuild their lives. The program serves women throughout Fairfield County. 

“With this documentary I celebrate this remarkable time in a woman’s life and create a counterpoint to the youth-obsessed media that bombards us day after day with superficial and unrealistic images of women,” Kimberlin said in the release.

DVD’s can be purchased through Third Fire Film’s website and will be shipped along with a personalized gift card anywhere in the U.S.
