The Greenwich Police Department was singled out by AAA Southern New England with a Gold Award for outstanding achievement in traffic safety.
"It's the highest most prestigious award they give," said Sgt. John Slusarz of the department's traffic section. "We were recognized for our commitment to pedestrian safety, educational programs, work with other departments in the area and enforcement work to bring down crash statistics."
A total of 54 communities from Fairfield, New Haven and Litchfield counties were recognized for traffic safety education and enforcement programs by AAA Southern New England late last month. The traffic section of the Greenwich Police Department received the highest award presented for its many programs and efforts to improve traffic safety for all modes of travel in the community.
