Greenwich Traffic Officer Jim Genovese Dies

UPDATED: Officer Jim Genovese, a 21-year veteran of the Greenwich Police Department, died suddenly at Westchester County Medical Center Tuesday night. Genovese was known for his daily position directing traffic on the Avenue right outside Starbucks.

"His strolling around the offices during his breaks looking for someone to talk to will be sorely missed," Chief David Ridberg said in an internal message sent out to the department. "We especially loved his 'Trekiness' and his little insights, such as: 'When an old person dies, a library is lost.' Perhaps he was too sensitive for this job, but we loved him nonetheless."

Genovese leaves behind a wife and young child. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced. See Genovese in a Main Street Connect video made early this year.
