GREENWICH, Conn. Greenwich will celebrate St. Patricks Day a little late this year with its 38th annual Hibernian Association parade Sunday, led by Grand Marshal James Heavey, chief of the Greenwich Police Department.
The parade will begin at 2 p.m. from the Town Hall southern parking lot and will run north to Route 1, east to Greenwich Avenue and down to Steamboat Road, where it will disband at the Island Beach lot.
Parking restrictions will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, and road closings will occur throughout the downtown beginning at 1:30 p.m. There will be no parking on the east side of Greenwich Avenue from Post Road to Steamboat Road, and no parking on either side of Steamboat Road from Railroad Avenue to Arch Street. Dayton Avenue will be closed at noon in preparation of the parade lineup. U.S. Route 1 will be closed from Dearfield to Lafaytte Place from 1:45 to 3:30 p.m. Detour signs and officers will reroute and direct traffic.
Marchers in the parade include Heaveys parents, Bart and Debbie Heavey; his wife, Kia; and their children Anna and Jamie. Also marching will be Greenwich Selectmen Peter Tesei, Daivd Theis and Drew Marzullo; Greenwichs state Reps. Fred Camillo and Livvy Floren; and U.S. Rep. Jim Himes.
Bands will include the Greenwich Pipe Band, Fairfield Gaelic Pipe Band, Greenwich High School Marching Band, the Pipes and Drums of the Firefighters Emerald Society of Westchester, the Pipes and Drums of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester, Westchester and District Pipe Band, Spirit of Blackrock Fife & Drum, Trumbull High School Marching Band, Tarrytown VFW Drum Corps, Tappan Zee Bridgemen and the Port Chester High School Marching Band.
