After the call came in at about 8 p.m., police set up a perimeter at the home on Round Hill Road and tried but failed to contact the people inside, NBC Connecticut said.
Police eventually went into the home and found no one inside, NBC Connecticut said.
A later Tweet from the Greenwich Police Department said: "The initial call was for what appeared to be very serious criminal matter. Currently there is no immediate threat to the general public."
Later Capt. Robert Berry released an audio news release, saying: "At this time we do not believe there was any actual hostage situation, and the Greenwich police are continuing to investigate the matter. There have been no reported injuries from the incident and there is currently no reason to believe there is any threat to the community"
