Is the power out in your neck of the woods? Do you know anyone who is stuck in the cold? The town of Greenwich announced the opening of a warming shelter at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center, 449 Pemberwick Road, beginning at 2 p.m. Monday to provide a warm and safe location for residents who lost power during the overnight blizzard.
If the outages last beyond the early evening hours, the warming shelter will transition to an emergency shelter and allow residents to remain at the shelter overnight. If you decide to go to the shelter, be sure to drive with caution.
The town is working with Connecticut Light & Power to establish another warming center on the eastern side of town.
Power outages are concentrated in the Cos Cob area along Bible Street and Valley Road; as well as parts of Glenville and the backcountry.
As of midday Monday, CL&P reports 391 of the 27, 884 Greenwich customers were without power.
Residents needing assistance should contact the nonemergency phone number at Public Safety Dispatch at 203-622-8003. For all emergencies, dial 911.
