GREENWICH, Conn. Greenwich is planning to oil goose eggs in its continuing efforts to manage the Canada goose population on public and private properties. The town is asking interested residents to sign up for training to help with the task.
Last year, the town staff oiled nearly 200 eggs, and trained residents oiled an additional 50 eggs. The Human Society has approved egg oiling as a protocol for controlling geese populations.
Those landowners, neighborhood association members, groundskeepers, golf course superintendents and town staff that have goslings in their water resources are encouraged to learn the basics of oiling.
Conservation Director Denise Savageau will teach participants how to locate nests, oil the eggs and safely interact with geese. Oiling should be done using the Geese Peace program.
The training program will take place March 28 in the Evaristo Conference Room on the third floor of Greenwich Town Hall. The program is free, but preregistration is required.
