Greenwich Man Admits to Stealing Steak

A Greenwich man was arrested Sunday after admitting to stealing a steak from Whole Foods on East Putnam Avenue. Richard Steward Jeffrey, 55, of 104 Round Hill Road, had concealed the steak in his jacket and driven away in his BMW. Police stopped the car, and Jeffrey told police he "did something stupid and was not thinking." He handed over the steak, valued at $34.55, to police and was arrested on a charge of sixth-degree larceny. He was released on a $250 bond and was due in court Dec. 20. Jeffrey was also told he would be arrested if he returned to Whole Foods.

• A Greenwich man and woman were arrested Friday on South Water Street after a verbal argument led to objects being thrown. The girlfriend and boyfriend began fighting and she threw objects and struck him. He responded by throwing objects at her. The man was issued a misdemeanor summons on the charge of disorderly conduct and released. The woman was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct and was held on $1,000 bond. They were both due to appear in court Monday.

• Esteban Steven Cervantes, 23, of 264 Madison Ave., Port Chester, N.Y., was arrested early Monday after a physical fight with his girlfriend in the parking lot of the Greenwich Country Club, police said. When officers approached the couple, Cervantes became confrontational and the two left. Officers located the couple and arrested Cervantes on charges of breach of peace, second-degree strangulation, unlawful restraint and refusing to be fingerprinted. He was held on $1,000 bond and was due in court Dec. 20.
