GREENWICH, Conn. Greenwich Hospital was honored with two awards from the Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Partnership at the organizations annual Conference on Quality and Innovation in Hartford on Tuesday.
This is another example of Greenwich Hospital's commitment to excellence in quality patient care and demonstrates what can be achieved when the passion of clinicians is combined with data and innovation," said Dr. Spike Lipschutz, Greenwich Hospitals chief quality officer.
The Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Partner promotes and recognizes excellence in innovation in Connecticut organizations.
The hospital was given a Gold Award for its Sustained Success in the Care of Greenwich Hospital Patients with Sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening infection that accounts for about 20 percent of admissions to hospital intensive care units nationwide. Septic shock has an average mortality rate of 42 percent even at major academic centers. The sooner therapy is implemented, the better the chance for survival. Greenwich Hospital developed and successfully implemented an evidence-based process to identify at-risk patients and ensure that life-saving care would be provided quickly.
Greenwich Hospital also a received a Silver Award for Cost Reduction and Supply Chain Resilience through Six Sigma, an initiative to find ways to save money while maintaining quality of care and patient safety. The hospital implemented a system transformation to reduce surgical department costs, while improving efficiency, enhancing quality and improving delivery of care. The operating room and supply chain was redesigned, resulting in a savings of about $250,000 within six months.
