GREENWICH, Conn. Greenwich residents will be happy to know that their town is No. 1 among state municipalities with populations of more than 50,000, according to Connecticut Magazine's lastest rankings.
The glossy's November issue ranked towns based on population, schools, crime rates, median house prices, equalized mill rates, library expenditures, PIC points and voter turnout.
PIC points look at the per capita income, equalized mill rate, adjusted equalized grand list per capita and aid to children. The list's authors explain that the PIC number is an indicator of wealth and need. It ranks 169 cities and towns in the state the greater the number, the less the need. Greenwich came in with a 169 ranking.
The magazine also said Greenwich had a crime rate for major crimes murder, rape, and robbery of 2.18 per 1,000 people from 2007 to 2009.
Greenwich students acheived a combined score of 1,702 out of 2,400 on the verbal, math and writing Scholastic Aptitude Tests in 2010.
In the 2008 presidential election, 85.21 percent of registered voters came out to the polls.
The librarys expenditures in 2010 were $160.84 per capita.
The median price for a house in Greenwich is $1.594 million and the town has an equalized mill rate of 5.15.
