Greenwich Forms Task Force To Review Town Cash-Handling Practices

GREENWICH, Conn. – After a former town employee was charged with stealing more than $2,000 in petty cash from town hall, Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei announced the creation of a task force charged with assessing cash handling practices throughout town departments and institutions.

The team will specifically be responsible for reviewing and evaluating current practices, Tesei announced. The four-member Cash Handling Review Task Force is also charged with recommending modifications that will increase efficiency and security, and insure consistency across all departments.

Martha Reyes, a former employee of the Department of Human Services, was arrested in September and charged with stealing more than $2,000 in petty cash from town hall.

The task force will include Town Administrator Ben Branyan, Comptroller Peter Mynarski and Director of Human Resources Mary Pepe, under the leadership of Tesei. The team is expected to complete its assignments within six months.
