Greenwich Doctor Named Top in the Nation

GREENWICH, Conn. – A Greenwich orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist was named to the 2012 Castle Connolly’s list of “America’s Top Doctors.”

Dr. Kevin Plancher was added to the national guide, which identifies more than 6,800 top specialists throughout the country across 63 specialties. Plancher, who has offices in Greenwich and New York City, is among the top 1 percent of doctors in the nation.

Plancher specializes in helping his patients recover from knee, shoulder and elbow injuries suffered during athletic activities. Through his practice, he has developed new surgical and nonsurgical techniques to improve patient outcomes and comfort. Surgeons worldwide have adopted many of his techniques.

“Sports injuries are growing by leaps and bounds,” Plancher says in a statement. According to an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons study of anticipated trends over the next 20 years, the number of knee replacements performed in the United States will grow to nearly 3.5 million by 2030, an increase of 700 percent.

“The good news is that with proper treatment, adult athletes not only recover but can get back in the game quickly,” said Plancher. He uses minimally invasive, bloodless surgeries that rely on innovative techniques to help his patients return to normal activities faster and with less pain.

Plancher is the founder of Plancher Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine PLLC. He is a team physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams and is chairman of the not-for-profit Orthopaedic Foundation for Active Lifestyles in Cos Cob.

Plancher is an attending physician at Stamford Hospital. He also serves as team physician for many high school, college, national championship and professional athletic teams and is the head team physician for Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y.
