GREENWICH, Conn. Efforts to clean up the town after Tropical Storm Irene continue day and night, leaving just 56 roads closed and 7,528 Connecticut Light & Power customers without electricity by Tuesday evening.
CL&P has deployed 16 line crews and 11 tree crews to address the widespread damage in Greenwich, town officials said. The crews work on 16-hour schedules, with 20 crews working through the day and seven working through the night.
As we all work to clean up in the aftermath of the hurricane, please assist the town by refraining from placing your yard waste and storm debris in the right of way, a town statement said.
Greenwich workers have cleared 261 blocked roads during the storm response. A total of 145 fallen trees still need to be addressed throughout town. Some cannot be removed until CL&P helps because there are power wires involved.
The towns Emergency Operation Center at Town Hall, which opened at 8 a.m. Saturday, was downgraded to a monitoring status Tuesday night.
