Greenwich Bear Was Tagged in Sussex County, N.J.

GREENWICH, Conn. – The young female bear captured Wednesday in Greenwich had originally been tagged last fall in northwestern New Jersey, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The tagging took place on Oct. 8, 2011, in Sandyston Township in Sussex County, DEEP officials said.

“That is about 93 miles driving distance from here, about 80 miles as the crow flies,” said Denise Savageau, Greenwich conservation director. At the time of her tagging, the bear weighed 127 pounds. When captured Wednesday, she weighed in at 155 pounds.
