GREENWICH, Conn. - Greenwich residents can get election turnout reports and district-by-district results emailed to them on Tuesday, the registrars of voters annouced Monday.
"A recipient can expect to see 10 emails or more on Nov. 8, but that is the only day this year we will be using the system," said Fred DeCaro III, who first tested the idea during the Republican primary in August 2010. The trial was a success, he said, and this year anyone who wishes can sign up for the emails. Enter your email address at the registrars of voters online at http://greenwichct.org/vote.
Those who sign up will receive voter turnout reports while the polls are open from each of Greenwichs 21 voting districts. After polls close, election officials will send out preliminary results from absentee ballots, and then add results from the districts as moderators bring them to Town Hall.
Email recipients can opt out at any time. Those who signed up last year need to sign up again. Addresses from last year's pilot program were not carried over. If residents choose to remain on the list, they will also receive information in 2012 for the Presidential Preference Primary, the 2012 Presidential Election, and any other primaries in 2012.
All emailed results are unofficial. Official results are posted on the town's website the following day after a review and double-check by the town clerk's office.
