George Lund, Former Fire Captain, Dies

George E. Lund, a former volunteer and captain in the Port Chester Fire Dept., died at Greenwich Hospital Wednesday. He was born March 4, 1919, to the late Ralph and Gertrude Lund.

The Byram resident served in the military and was stationed in Japan during the occupation after World War II. Lund worked for 41 years in the signal department of Metro-North Railroad. He was an active volunteer firefighter in the Port Chester Fire Department's Washington Engine Hose and Fire Co. 4 for 57 years. He served as captain from 1968 to 1969 and was also head driver for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Nethercott; a daughter, Judy, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery.
