Greenwich Emergency Medical Service is gearing up for a three round of free CPR and First Aid classes in August for local housing authorities.
According Lynn Ridberg, director of education for GEMS, participants will be educated in car seat safety, window and blind safety and environmental emergencies. "One of the goals of GEMS is not to only provide high level pre-hospital care but to make the community a part of the chain of survival," said Ridberg. "Recognizing emergencies and acting quickly on the part of citizens helps save lives."
The program, which is offered in English and Spanish, will also send participants home with The American Heart Associations CPR Anytime kit. The program comes in part by a $20,000 grant that was provided by The Ruth and Hall Launders Charitable Trust. Its purpose is to teach participants safety in their homes and in the community.
Classes will be held at Wilbur Peck Family Action Center, Armstrong Court Community Room and Adams Garden Community.
