Gas Line Fire Closes Greenwich Road

GREENWICH, Conn. – A gas line ruptured on Gilliam Lane in Greenwich Monday morning, destroying construction equipment and closing road.

A private company was milling the surface of the road when it struck a gas line, according to Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman for the Greenwich Police Department. The line ruptured and ignited and engulfed some of the machinery in flames, he said.

The Glenville Fire Department responded and put out the fire. Portions of East Putnam Avenue at Riverside Avenue were closed while the area was secured. The investigation has been turned over to the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration. No one was hurt in the fire.
