Funeral Set for Ex-Greenwich Police Chief Robbins

GREENWICH, Conn. – Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for this weekend for retired Greenwich Police Chief Peter J. Robbins, who died in his sleep Monday at his home. He was 66.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fred. D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Parish, 178 Greenwich Ave. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Robbins graduated from St. Mary High School and Iona College with a degree in criminal justice. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman and was a Vietnam War veteran.

Robbins joined the police department in July 1970 and rose through the ranks to become the chief of police in 1997. He retired in 2002.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greenwich Police Department Scholarship Fund c/o Chief's Office, 11 Bruce Place, Greenwich, CT 06830.

Any police department wishing to send a representative should have him or her assemble in front of Greenwich Police Headquarters. Honor Guard or motor units attending should contact the chief's office at 203-622-8010.
