Former Greenwich Police Chief Ranks as Top Earner

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich’s former Chief of Police David Ridberg and Deputy Superintendent of Schools Ellen Flanagan were at the top of the list of the town’s top 30 salary makers of 2011.

Ridberg grossed $240,097 in 2011, according to a list released Friday by Mary Jo Iannuccilli, assistant director of the town's Department of Human Resources. Chief James Heavey succeeded Ridberg, who retired Oct. 31.   

School administrators also ranked high. Flanagan, the second-highest wage earner in town, grossed $196,878 in 2011. Assistant Superintendent Stacey Gross was third with a salary of $185,977 in 2011.

Benjamin Branyan, the district’s managing director of operations, ranked seventh with a salary of $171,360. Before his abrupt resignation last spring, former Superintendent Sidney Freund was ranked ninth in the town at $169,994. Director of Pupil Personnel Services and Special Education, Mary Forde, ranked 13th in Greenwich with a salary of $161,476. Truxton Southworth, district program coordinator for mathematics and technology education, was ranked 28th in the town at $150,247. Southworth recently announced his retirement as of June.

Town Administrator John Crary made the fourth highest salary in 2011 with $181,448, followed by Comptroller Peter Mynarski in fifth with $177,519 for the year. The town’s Commissioner of Public Works Amy Siebert ranked 10th at $168,469. Town lawyer John Wetmore ranked 14th of top earners with a salary of $161,062. Director of Labor Relations Alfred Cava was 19th, earning $153,687.  

The town’s Director of Human Resources Robert Lichtenfeld ranked 12th on the list with a salary of $162,634. He succeeded former director Maureen Kast after her retirement. Kast was ranked 17th at $158,045. 

School principals and assistant principals collected some of the highest salaries in town. The sixth highest earner of all town employees in 2011 was Greenwich High School Headmaster Chris Winters with $175, 575.

• Eastern Middle School Principal Ralph Mayo ranked eighth at $170,076.

• Western Middle School Principal Terry Starr-Klein ranked 11th at $162,670.

• Central Middle School Principal Shelley Somers ranked 15th at $160,952.

• Riverside  School Principal John Grasso ranked 18th at $157,157.

• International School at Dundee Principal Teresa Ricci ranked 20th at $153,326.

• North Street School Principal Charles Smith ranked 21st at $152,695.

• North Mianus School Principal Angela Schmidt ranked 22nd at $152,601.

• North Mianus School Assistant Principal Jennifer Bencivengo ranked 23rd at $152,601.

• Julian Curtiss School Principal Patricia Mcguire ranked 24th at $151,692.

• Cos Cob School Principal Kimberly Beck ranked 25th at $151,692.

• Glenville School Principal Marc D’Amico ranked 26th at $151,394.

• Old Greenwich School Principal Patricia Raneri ranked 27th at $151,203.

• Eastern Middle School Assistant Principal Jim Shukie ranked 29th at $148,988.

• Central Middle School Assistant Principal Josephine Frame ranked 30th at $148,966.
