UPDATE: The powerful storm that pushed through the area dumping up to 2 inches of rain an hour, caused flooded roads, scattered power outages and downed tree limbs. A flood watch is in effect until 6 p.m. Friday.
A total of 775 customers in town were without power at 12:50 p.m. on Friday morning.
No major delays were reported on Metro-North. Town officials urged drivers to be cautious. Drivers were warned not to drive on flooded streets because standing water can be deeper than it appears.
On Thursday, the threat of heavy rains, high winds and potential for downed trees and flooding in Greenwich because of Tropical Strom Nicole prompted early school dismissals Thursday as well as postponement of school activities.Selectman Peter Tesei advised residents to cancel unnecessary travel, avoid downed wires and monitor conditions through 1490 WGCH-AM radio, Cablevision's News Channel 12 and the town Web site. Call 911 for emergencies only. For non-emergencies, call the Public Safety Dispatch Center at (203) 622-8003.
Greenwich High School, Brunswick School, Greenwich Academy and Convent of the Sacred Heart canceled all athletic games and practices. All scheduled games were postponed to a different date and time. Check with your school's athletic program for new schedules.
All Greenwich Public Schools were released one hour early and after-school activities were canceled.
The Board of Education meeting scheduled for Thursday night was canceled. The agenda topics will be combined with the school board work session meeting Oct. 7.
