Police arrested five men and seized approximately 5.5 ounces of marijuana during a drug bust on Pemberwick Road Wednesday night. Responding to an unrelated call to the area, police detected the smell of marijuana from two young men walking out of the house at 105 Pemberwick Road, said Sgt. Timothy Hilderbrand, head of the narcotics division.
The men, Ryan Flanzer, 17 and Nicholas LaSorsa, 18 both of Scarsdale, admitted to possessing about four ounces of the substance and indicated they had purchased the drugs at the first floor apartment at 104 Pemberwick Road, police said. Hidlerbrand said a search warrant for house and Flanzer's car was signed and executed at 9 p.m. Inside the car about one ounce of marijuana was found along with scales, a grinder and small plastic baggies.
Hildebarand said that one of the men in the apartment, Gary Winokur, 46, reportedly threw drugs and paraphernalia he had in his hands into the kitchen, causing police to charge him with interfering with an officer. Inside the house, police found less than one ounce of marijuana.
"Sale was not observed, but they were all in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia," said Hilderbrand. "Based on post-arrest interviews, Flanzer, LaSorsa and Jason [Bell] admitted a transaction had occurred."
In addition to charges of intent to sell, conspiracy and possession, Flanzer and LaSorsa also had fake IDs on their person, adding second-degree forgery to their charges, police said..
The three residents of the first floor apartment 49 year-old Victor Shapiro, Jason Bell, 24 and Winokur were arrested on charges of possession of cannabis under 4 ounces, possession of paraphernalia and conspiracy. All the arrested posted various bonds Wednesday night and are due in court on July 21. Due to the case still being under investigation, further details could not be obtained, however there are no plans for extra patrol in the Pemberwick area. "We would encourage people to report drug activity anonymously, via our email tipline," said Hilderbrand.
