World War II Navy veteran Joseph Aloysius Tamany Jr. of Greenwich died Aug. 28 surrounded by loved ones.
Tamany and his young family were one of the few families who lived at Tod's Mansion before it was demolished. Tamany had been a business executive, and his career took him to Pennsylvania and North Carolina. He later moved back to his family's estate in Greenwich. The land went back many generations and was next to Ernest Thompson Seton's Wyndygoul estate in Cos Cob. His father was one of the original Seton's Indians, the predecessor to the Boy Scouts.
He enjoyed golfing, reading and spending time with his family. Tamany is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine "Jeri" Boles Tamany, daughters Dena Gooding and Bari Tamany Coreil and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that Tamany be remembered by committing a random act of kindness in his name.
