Family Center Finds Holes in Kids' Health Care

More than 1,150 public school students in Stamford are without medical, dental and mental health services. To mark National School-Based Health Care Awareness Month, Family Center of Greenwich hosted a number of state officials at a recent open house at Westhill High School to learn about their health care programs.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-Greenwich; state Rep. Lile Gibbons, R-Greenwich; and Joe Rodriguez, a representative from U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal's office, attended the event and heard about the services provided to students by the Family Center's six school-based health centers. Nearly 60 percent of students in the city are uninsured, and the health centers are their only source of basic medial care.
