Fall brings to mind crisp fall air, playing in the leaves at Binney Park and showing off glorious shades of red, yellow and orange. Fall foliage may be one of the best things about living in New England. But this year's scenery may be much less striking than normal.
With record high temperatures this summer, many scientists believe the drought-like conditions will weather the leaves before they change color.
According to published reports, experts are already seeing leaves change color, which is common with dry conditions. Soil must have an adequate amount of water to prevent premature wilting and color changes. Graeme Berlyn, a professor of forest management at Yale University, said temperatures must remain cool and the weather moderately dry from September to November for optimum fall foliage.
