As the storm season remains active, First Selectman Peter Tesei's office has organized a Hurricane Preparedness Program for the town. Greenwich residents will have an opportunity to ask experts for advice and hear how the town prepares in the event of a hurricane.
"I see it as a very informative program that emphasizes citizen's role in preparing for a hurricane," said Tesei. But as much as the town can help, he said, individuals need to take responsibility for their own preparations.
The free program is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Cole Auditorium of the Greenwich Public Library. The 90-minute presentation will feature Tesei; WABC-TV meteorologist Bill Evans; Commissioner Peter Boynton of the state Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security; and representatives of utility companies, town departments and the media.
The program is co-sponsored by the Town of Greenwich, the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Greenwich Department of Health, Connecticut Light & Power, Connecticut Natural Gas, the Greenwich Police Department, the Greenwich Fire Department, the town Department of Parks and Recreation, Greenwich Emergency Medical Service, the Greenwich chapter of the American Red Cross and WGCH-AM radio.
