GREENWICH, Conn. -- It took about 15 hours, but Exit 2 of southbound I-95 reopened late Tuesday after a tractor-trailer hit a power pole during the morning rush hour, Connecticut Department of Transportation announced.

Traffic was slow and drivers faced delays on southbound I-95 all of Tuesday after the accident in Greenwich at about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, DOT said. At the height of the morning and afternoon rush hours, delays of more than 10 miles were reported by DOT.

The ramp to Delavan Avenue was closed all day while the repairs were made to the pole and power lines, DOT said.

Connecticut Light & Power reported 50 power outages in the area for most of the day as the repairs continued.

Greenwich Time reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer that pulled down electric and telephone wires at a stop sign on the Exit 2 off-ramp fled north on the highway.

Another driver noted the license plate of the truck, and the vehicle was stopped, Greenwich Time. The driver, who has not yet been identified, was arrested.
