Riverside resident Emmett H. Eaton, a longtime New York Stock Exchange executive, died at his home Jan. 10. He was 95.
Eaton graduated from Fordham University in 1937 and went on to earn his master's degree in business administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1939. Eaton worked as a junior analyst at Shields & Co. and then an oil analyst with Merrill Lynch.
He served as a transport commander on U.S. Army ships during World War II. Eaton also was a liaison officer at the War Production Board in Washington, D.C. After the war, he served as the assistant to the senior vice president of California Texas Oil Co. and became director of membership for the New York Stock Exchange. From the Exchange, he moved on to be vice president of Underwriting at Walston & Co. and manager of Underwriting at Ira Haupt & Co. Eaton organized Eaton Associates, as its senior financial analyst, for the remainder of his career.
Eaton served on Greenwich's Representative Town Meeting for 40 years and was a past president and honorary member of the Greenwich Rotary Club. He served on the Parish Council of St. Catherine of Siena Church and was one of the original Eucharistic Ministers.
He enjoyed sailing and was commodore of the Old Greenwich Yacht Club and an honorary member of the Greenwich Boat & Yacht Club.
Eaton sang and danced as a member of the Retired Men's Association of Greenwich's singing group, The Melody Men. He also enjoyed painting marine and local landscapes.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Eaton; daughters, Mary Eaton and husband Richard Koch and Eileen Bemus and husband Allen Bemus; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son John Christopher Eaton; brothers Francis and Ernest Eaton; and sisters Rosalie E. Marsh and Vivian E. Kalb.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Jan. 15 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside.
