GREENWICH, Conn. A man who had been released from prison just four days before was arrested Wednesday night when police, acting on a tip, broke up a herion deal in the parking lot of the McDonald's on East Putnam Avenue.
David Cardona, 38, of Waterbury, took off on foot and was run down by a Greenwich detective on the ramp to I-95, police said. The officer received elbow injuries forcing Cardona to the ground.
Police received a tip that a heroin courier would arrive at the McDonald's in a red car at 9:15 p.m. When a red Chevrolet Malibu entered the parking lot, detectives approached. They said Cardona jumped out and ran. Cardona, of 37 Laurel Street in Waterbury, was arrested on charges of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, criminal attempt at sale of narcotics, interfering with a police officer and conspiracy to sell narcotics. He was held on a $25,000 bond and was due in court Thursday.
A search of the car revealed 10 bags of heroin packaged for sale, police said.
They said Marcus Santiago, 41, of 315 Cottage St., Bridgeport, was in the car with Cardona. Santiago was charged with conspiracy to sell narcotics and held on a $25,000 bond pending arraignment Thursday.
