Doris Neikirk, Nurse, Volunteer

Riverside resident Doris Ebling Neikirk died of cancer Nov. 13 at the Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. She was 92.

Neikirk grew up in New York City and spent her summers in Old Greenwich. She moved to town after marrying John Orr Neikirk and has lived in Old Greenwich and Riverside for nearly 70 years. She worked as nurse in Greenwich Hospital for 15 years. Neikirk became involved in the community and volunteered her time to many organizations. In her spare time, Neikirk was an avid walker, bridge player and golfer and enjoyed classical music and nature.

For more than 60 years, she was a member of First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Budington, John Neikirk Jr. and William Neikirk; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, daughter, parents and brother.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 27 at the First Congregational Church, 108 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich. Burial will be private.
