The Greenwich United Way has received a $25,000 check from VivaPop founder and CEO Elizabeth Tarbell. The donation comes from VivaPop's All-American Soap Box Derby fund-raiser on Sept. 12.
Support from individuals, businesses and fund-raisers like the Derby allows the United Way to assist dozens of health and human services organizations. Agencies are chosen because they provide a useful service to the community and serve a wide range of needs.
In the fall of 2009, the United Way created a Critical Needs Fund in addition to its annual Community Investment of $2 million. Over $75,000 of grant money has been distributed to agencies that are struggling due to the economy.
