David H. Fairburn of Greenwich, a retired executive and choir member at Round Hill Community Church, died Oct. 23 at the age of 73. His wife of 50 years, Barbara, had died four weeks earlier.
He enjoyed singing and his deep bass voice was heard for 40 years in the Round Hill Community Church. Fairburn served on the church's board of trustees for many years, four of them as chairman.
Fairburn, a 1959 Harvard graduate, had a 25-year career with Keyes Fiber Co., the leading provider of recycled fiber and plastic food containers, then known for its Chinet disposable dinnerware. Fairburn served as executive vice president and director of European operations there.
He later served as CEO of Cherami Natural Pet Foods Inc., one of the first companies with all natural pet food.
Fairburn enjoyed his retirement, traveling through Europe and enjoying long voyages on his boat, Meltemi, from Maine to the Caribbean.
Fairburn was a past governor of the Field Club of Greenwich and Indian Harbor Yacht Club, as well as a past member of The New York Yacht Club and the Cruising Club of America.
He is survived by his daughters, Hillary Sullivan and husband Scott and Lisa Clark and husband Todd; sister, Susan Farnsworth; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service for David and Barbara Fairburn will be held at the Round Hill Community Church at 2 p.m. Dec. 19 with a reception to follow in the church parlor. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Round Hill Community Church, 395 Round Hill Road, Greenwich, CT 06831.
