Crews Tear Down Greenwich Central Fire Station

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Demolition crews tore down the last of the old Greenwich Central Fire Station on Wednesday to make room for the new $20 million station that was approved by the Board of Estimate and Taxation in March.

A picture taken by a member of Greenwich Fire Local 1042 showed the demolition of the building at 17 Havemeyer Place that has been home to the Greenwich Fire Department since 1939.

Construction of the new central fire station is slated to begin this summer with crews scheduled to move in by mid-2015.

One engine and several firefighters will operate out of a temporary building on Horseneck Lane.
