Crash Kills Academy Coach

O'Neil Medley, a beloved coach and physical education teacher at Greenwich Academy, died in a motorcycle accident on Sunday morning. According to published reports, Medley, 36, lost control of his motorcycle on Route 7 in Kent while rounding a sharp curve. He died on board a helicopter while en route to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury.

Greenwich Academy's head's assistant, Dawn Barnes, said many of the students and faculty members are just learning of the tragic death after returning from vacation. She said they are waiting to hear from Medley's family for details on funeral arrangements.

"We're all still processing this," Barnes said. "It has been quite a shock."

Medley, a Stamford resident, was the varsity head coach of the basketball team, assistant coach for the varsity volleyball team, and assistant coach for the varsity softball team, in addition to being a physical education teacher.
