After several bids and weeks of deliberation, the Department of Public Works chose RC&D, Inc. of Providence, R.I., to complete the construction on the new outdoor space.

Improvements to the former power plant include new fencing around the perimeter of the site, a new entrance driveway and parking lots, synthetic turf multi-use field, extensive landscaping, sewer, water, electric and drainage utilities, and an amphitheater seating area with panoramic view.

The construction will include all items in the final site plan except for the pergola, amphitheater stage, children’s playground, restroom pavilion, site amenities and open air pavilion.

It is estimated that this phase of the work will be completed by November 2014.

The construction of the park is considered to be the final phase of remediation of the site. Once this phase of construction is complete, the site may be open to the public.
