Travel times will be reduced by two to five minutes due to the significant amount of track work that has been completed since the current timetable was implemented.

All four tracks in a 6-mile stretch from Woodlawn to Melrose in New York will be in service for the first time since an intensive upgrade began on July 1, 2013. In addition, track speed will be increased by 15 mph to 75 mph on three of the four tracks in the area for the first time in five years.

Full train service at Melrose and Tremont stations will also will resume. These stations had been served with shuttle buses to Fordham throughout the project that significantly reduced track capacity in an area that carries New Haven Line trains.

“The recent track project in the Bronx reduced track capacity by up to 50 percent. With the completion of this major project, customers should notice improvements in the service,” Metro-North President Howard Permut said in a statement.
