Check Out Memorial Day Events in Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – Memorial Day events in Greenwich include three parades in town, a Memorial Day service and 5-mile run. Here’s all the need-to-know information to navigate the holiday events.

Byram Veterans Association will hold its Memorial Day Parade in downtown Byram beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. Police will shut down the main road briefly to accommodate the short parade and ceremony.   

Ninth District Veterans Association will run its parade at 5 p.m. Sunday from Delavan Avenue to Mead Avenue to William Street to South Water Street to Mill Street to Mead Avenue and ending at the Byram Shubert Library. Police will close these roadways for the parade, the wreath laying in front of the firehouse, and a ceremony at the library.

On Monday at 8 a.m., Memorial Day will kick off with the Greenwich American Legion Post 29’s annual dockside ceremony at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club, at 710 Steamboat Road. The event will feature U.S. Marine Maj. Scott F. Welch as the guest of honor, a flag parade, memorial wreath presentation and a 21-gun salute.

At 8:15 a.m. Monday, the Threads & Treads Jim Fixx Memorial Day 5-Mile run and kids half-mile run will begin. Police will temporarily close lanes of downtown Greenwich roadways, including Greenwich Avenue, to accommodate the race.

The Sound Beach Fire Department will hold its Memorial Day Parade in downtown Old Greenwich beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. Police will temporarily close Sound Beach Avenue from Laddins Rock Road to Shore Road for the parade, which will conclude at Binney Park.
