The latest slew of car break-ins around Greenwich have resulted in just two arrests since August. Police are advising residents to be more vigilant to prevent more break-ins.
One suspected car thief was James Ruseau, 33, who was arrested on Aug. 31 after a few break-ins were reported near the Walgreens on East Putnam Avenue. Since Ruseau's arrest, no break-ins have been reported in that area.
Although Ruseau was arrested for allegedly breaking into vehicles near shopping areas, police say most car break-ins have occurred in residential areas.
"The overriding link between all these burglaries of late has been unlocked cars," said Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman for the department. "Our advice is to lock your doors all the time everywhere and don't leave valuables in your car, especially in plain sight."
Since Aug. 1, a total of 11 car break-ins have been reported in Greenwich, predominantly in residential areas of Old Greenwich and Riverside. Only two arrests have been made, including Ruseau. Another arrest occurred last week after teenagers broke into the car of an off-duty policeman during the night.
Police advise that if you see someone strange in your driveway near your car, notify the police immediately before approaching possible burglars.
