"Several days ago, a Brunswick Alumnus informed the school that he had been the victim of inappropriate sexual contact as a middle school student in the early 1980s by a person who was then a member of the Brunswick School Faculty," Headmaster Thomas Philip said in the statement on the school's website.
The victim said the abuse did not take place at the school, according to the statement.
Though the alleged abuse took place 30 years ago, the school said it is taking "immediate steps to alert law enforcement of the accusation that has been brought to our attention."
The school commended the courage of the former student in coming forward and encouraged any others to come forward if they were the victims of abuse. Those who wish to seek counseling from the school are encouraged to contact Leslie Andersen, director of parent and student counseling services.
Anyone with further information that may aid the investigation is encouraged to contact Headmaster Thomas Philip.
