Bronx Man Charged With Fraud at Greenwich Bank

A Bronx, N.Y., man was arrested in Greenwich on Wednesday after allegedly posing as a Citibank customer and attempting to get a debit card issued.

Samuel A. Ortiz, of 56 W. 180 St., went to the Railroad Avenue branch of Citibank and identified himself as Michael Anderson, a current Citibank customer. He gave Anderson's Social Security number and checking account number to the bank and asked for a debit card to be issued. Staff became suspicious when he was unable to answer questions about account transaction history. Police found a counterfeit license on Ortiz and contacted Anderson to confirm his own identity. Anderson told police he was unaware his identity had been stolen. Ortiz was arrested on charges of forgery, identity theft and criminal impersonation. He was held on $15,000 bond and is due in court May 25.
