99% of Power Restored in Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich was approaching full recovery Thursday from this past weekend’s storm, with power returned to 99 percent of its Connecticut Light & Power customers.

But 502 customers – residential or business – out of 27,910 were without power. CL&P achieved 99 percent restoration at 11 p.m. Wednesday, 24 hours earlier than projected. The company projects 100 percent restoration by the end of Saturday.

Nineteen Connecticut towns still had 80 percent or more of their residents and businesses without electricity. More than half the towns across Connecticut have 50 percent or more of their residents and businesses in the dark.

Current CL&P priorities for Greenwich are restoring power to remaining dark neighborhoods and remediation of individual service issues.

As of noon Thursday, the only reported road closure was Lockwood Lane at East Putnam Avenue, due to power lines. Alternate routes were available. Many minor road obstructions remained, but most were expected to be reduced by the end of Friday. 

All downed wires should be considered "live" and lethal. Generators, which discharge lethal carbon monoxide fumes, should only be used outside. Having your garage door open is not sufficiently safe. Carbon monoxide is odorless and tasteless.

The town also asks residents not to put yard waste and storm debris along the roads. The Department of Public Works will not remove debris from private property.

The town said in a release that it does not have supervisory authority over CL&P and that the company is responsible for the restoration of power. Complaints regarding CL&P can be made to the Public Utility Regulatory Agency at 800-382-4586 or online.

The town has posted an updated link online to a map indicating current roadway obstructions across Greenwich.
