9/11 Plaque Will Remember the Fallen

The long-awaited 9/11 memorial plaque in Greenwich will soon be in its home overlooking the New York City skyline next to the lighthouse on Great Captains Island as the ninth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks approaches.

According to published reports, town officials said the bronze plaque will be engraved with the names of local people who died on Sept. 11, 2001. It will have 26 names listed in three columns on a granite slab. A total of 12 Greenwich residents and 14 others with local ties were killed that day; most were in the World Trade Center; two were killed on the hijacked planes.

The town of Greenwich was the town with the highest death toll in the state in the attacks. First Selectman Peter Tesei said in the reports that he was pleased to have the plaque dedicated to the victims and their families.
