John Frank, vice chairman of Sidney Frank Importing Co., gave a $100,000 check to the Greenwich Red Cross to go toward the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.
"Like the rest of the world, we, too, were horrified to see the results of the terrible earthquake in Japan," said Frank. "We wanted to quickly help the American Red Cross assist those in need."
The Japanese Red Cross said the compassion of the American people have shown is uplifting at a time when it is dealing with such an immense humanitarian tragedy. The American Red Cross first made a $10 million donation to the Japanese Red Cross Society. About 390,000 people are staying in shelters run by the Japanese Red Cross.
The New Rochelle, N.Y.,-based company imports liquors throughout the world and has been an active player in supporting the local community. One of the company's most popular imports is Gekkeikan Sake, from Kyoto, Japan.
To donate to the Japan Earthquake Relief, go to the Red Cross website or to make a $10 donation, text REDCROSS to 90999.
