Your Greenwich Summer Reading Passport Is Ready!

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Grab your passport and book a trip with Greenwich Library's summer reading club, themed “One World, Many Stories.”

The club is designed for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The idea is for the children to experience the joy of reading through activities, games, incentives and a summer full of special programs. Pick up your child’s summer reading passport and complete passport quests, make entries in the passport reading log, then visit the library with the passport and have completed quests stamped and stickered.

The next event is Animal Embassy’s World Wildlife show with the Stamford Museum and Nature Center’s Chris Evers, who will talk about animal ambassadors and the preservation and conservation issues they face. He will also introduce the children to live animals from all parts of the world.

Drop by to make crafts from foreign countries, like worry dolls and paper tribal necklaces on July 19 or maracas and paper fortune cookies on Aug. 2.

Watch your kids dance and sing along at the “One Heart/One World” multicultural celebration that begins with a Native American ceremony and ends with an African drum and dance celebration--July 23 at 11 a.m. in the Greenwich Library Meeting Room.

Storyteller Lot Therrio will share folktales and stories from many cultures on July 28 in the children’s room.

On July 30 at 11 a.m., Margie Warner presents an interactive program of storytelling, music and movement for families with “One World, One Home--Family Music From Around the World.”

Summer reading will end with a comedic magic show by Danny Magic on Aug. 13 at 10:45 a.m. in the Cole Auditorium.

Registration for summer reading continues through Aug. 7. Call (203) 622-7940 for more details and visit the Greenwich Library Children’s Room to register.
